What is an ATM card?

An ATM card is a little plastic card that looks like a credit card, which you can get from your bank with either a checking or savings account. You can use it to do a number of standard banking activities at the bank’s automated teller machine (ATM), anytime, rather than having to go inside the bank and talk to a teller.

THE DEFINITION
A plastic card tied to a bank checking or savings account, which allows the cardholder to withdraw cash, or deposit cash or checks, at an automated teller machine (ATM). The ATM can be at the cardholder’s bank, another bank or at non-bank locations such as supermarkets, convenience stores or airports.
